WWW.MARSHALL.EDU/FOUNDATION She is a graduate of the teacher’s college. Two of my three children were born at Cabell Huntington Hospital. My younger brother Paul Jackson is a Marshall graduate and has served on the Alumni Board. “I worked with a great football coach by the name of Wayne Woodrow Hayes at The Ohio State University who daily preached to his players and associates that you will never be able to pay back all the people who helped you along the way to get to your level of success, so he said you need to pay it forward. Serve and donate when and where you can to pay forward to the next generation. My wife and I have lived by that for years and are passing it on to our children and grandchildren.” His favorite project at Marshall was raising $100,000 to have the lounge in the Brad D. Smith Foundation Hall named after Nate Ruffin. “It’s the perfect place to return to campus and meet old friends,” Mickey said. When he returns to Marshall, Mickey said he enjoys seeing the campus development and growth and talking to students and people on campus and in the community. “My football experience served as a solid foundation for life success. Football taught me how to set goals, work with teammates and get back up after being knocked down. These are basic principles we all need to get through the rough and rowdy roads of life,” he said. “We all face challenges in life. And at times, it can feel like those challenges may just beat you down. You have to keep going and stay strong. The people who win in life are the ones who do not give up.” Annual Fund Leads to Success Your support of Marshall students following in your footsteps is vital to moving the Marshall family forward. It allows them to overcome common obstacles faced each academic year. Today’s Sons and Daughters of Marshall like those from generations past are ambitious, talented and full of potential. Annual Fund donors like you have not only supported students through scholarships and financial aid but have also backed Marshall University research and faculty initiatives, academic programs and award-winning athletic and arts programs. Loyal supporters help prepare faculty to excel in their classrooms, prepare students to enter the workforce and so much more. Whether you began last year or last century, we greatly appreciate your tradition of supporting the Annual Fund. With gifts from other alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends, the Annual Fund creates flexible and vital resources for the university to address its greatest needs, embrace new opportunities and allow students to overcome the fear of a lack of funding.
