You have been on my mind numerous times throughout the recent months. Uncertainty makes for challenging days, but humanity has a pleasant way of inspiring us when we need it most. This pandemic has us facing a variety of changes from our daily routine, the way we communicate and even how we enjoy our hobbies. It has us aching to visit friends and hopeful that we can continue a slower paced life when it comes to our loved ones. Each summer, we prepare for the next academic year with great excitement, and this year is no different.Despite the shortened time on-campus and switch to virtual learning mid-semester, Marshall students deserve an applause for their resilience and adaptability. In a trying time for everyone, our students moved home, accepted a different learning style and faced a handful of challenges. This is where, as usual, you saved the day. You graciously contributed dollars to support our student emergency fund, which provided some students the resources they needed to travel home on short notice. Others were hungry and you humbled us by realizing there would be students facing this need and provided the means to keep them fed. Students have learned one of the most valuable lessons during this pandemic, and it is simply one of perseverance. They have been diligent and determined to succeed through the complications of a disrupted semester and will undoubtedly reap the benefits of your motivation to help. In scary times, you reminded them that they were only physically alone, as their Marshall family is supporting them.I hope you see yourself like our students see you - encouraging, kind and loyal. We are so thankful to have you in our Marshall family. Until the day we can safely reunite, I hope you and yours stay safe and healthy. Sincerely, Ron Area, Chief Executive Officer, Marshall University Foundation, Inc.'
