possible with their generosity and share stories of their travels and life lessons,” says Heather. “At lunch last week, we discussed their recent trip and the traffic,” says Eleanor, who has been impressed by the Andrews’ kindness during her freshman year. “They attended my juried exhibition. I think it is really nice that they want to be involved in my accomplishments.” Zach met the Andrews two years ago when he completed his undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University in Texas and moved closer to his family to pursue medical school at Marshall. “Since I have had the pleasure of meeting them, they have offered generous assistance, and I have always been encouraged to reach out if there is anything I needed,” Zach says. “That level of generosity and care is beyond anything I could have expected. Honestly, I am deeply indebted to them.” “They went through school and they’ve lived here and worked here; they have kids, but there is something about the students of Marshall they care enough about to say, ‘here, we want to give this to you to help you.’ I think that is important,” says Ellen. She explains that the obstacles she has overcome makes her thankfulness for this scholarship incapable of being spoken. “People who come from situations like I have would not have even dreamed they would be in college, and now, I am in college, and I am going to study abroad and then graduate,” she says. “I have had all of these opportunities and none of this would have happened without my scholarship. I am beyond grateful. I can never truly express what they have done for me. I could cry.” According to Tana, the couple has taught her to live life to the fullest. “They want to see me be the best I can be,” she says. All five of the students agree that Mr. and Mrs. Andrews have inspired them to give back to deserving students one day. “The Andrews have given me a firsthand example of how much of an impact you can make on the life of a young person when you look for an opportunity to give back,” says Zach. “Their gift to me was unearned, a credit to their generosity as opposed to my ability, which makes it so precious.” “They are easily the most selfless couple I have ever met and their kindness stretches far beyond Marshall,” says Heather. “They truly care about our well-being. They want the best for us, professionally and personally, which means so much more than just a financial gift. I would take getting to spend time with the two of them over a financial gift any day.” The impact of the Andrews thoughtfulness goes beyond education. They have changed this generation to understand, firsthand, the importance of generosity.
