WWW.MARSHALL.EDU/FOUNDATION Marshall University students took the opportunity to express their sincere gratitude during the sixth annual Thank A Donor Days, held September 5 and 6. The Marshall University Foundation took over a portion of the Memorial Student Center plaza so that students could write notes of thanks or record video messages explaining what privately funded scholarships mean to them. Students who were interested in participating but are not scholarship recipients shared their appreciation for donors who give to the programs in which they study or the facilities in which they attend classes. Colleges were encouraged to make a thank you sign to display at the event. Additionally, students who stopped by each station were entered to win the ultimate snack pack. Dietrick Penn, a freshman majoring in athletic training, was the winner. Marshall’s mascot, Marco, stopped by to say thanks and pose for pictures with students. Thank A Donor Day is an annual event that will be held again next fall. Thank you, Marshall Donors! “Marshall University would not be what it is today without the generous contributions of our donors and Thank a Donor Day is meant to remind students that, while each of their Marshall experiences is unique, they are all impacted by the continued support from the university’s alumni and friends.” - Ron Area, Chief Executive Officer of the Marshall University Foundation #GivingTuesday Helps The Marshall University Annual Fund #GivingTuesday, a purely social media-based event that began in 2012, is dedicated to philanthropy and community volunteerism. It follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. Over the past three years, #GivingTuesday has supported the Marshall University Foundation’s Grant for West Virginia Students and the Student Disaster Relief Fund. While gifts can be made to any fund on #GivingTuesday, this year we ask our Marshall alumni family and friends to support the Marshall University Annual Fund. Annual Fund dollars go to the areas of greatest need at the university, such as general scholarships, library materials, student activities, intercultural programs, campus technology upgrades and so much more. Annual Fund contributions designated to an individual college help support a variety of projects including guest lectures, department scholarships, faculty development, classroom equipment and student or faculty research. We have set a goal of receiving gifts, in any amount, from 150 donors. This year, #GivingTuesday will be held on Tuesday, November 27. We invite you to follow our social media as we share stories from thankful students whose lives have been transformed through privately funded scholarships and are achieving their educational goals through opportunities donors provide. At Marshall University in the 2017-2018 academic year, over 1,850 scholarships were awarded to more than 1,400 different student recipients in excess of $4.1 million dollars. Gifts can be made by visiting www.marshall.edu/ givingtuesday or by sending checks to The Marshall University Foundation Inc., 519 John Marshall Dr., Huntington, West Virginia 25703 with “Giving Tuesday” in the memo.
